FAQs
Lisa Greenstein Therapy | Perinatal & EMDR Therapist in Westfield, NJ and NYC
1. What types of therapy do you offer?
I specialize in working with women and parents navigating the challenges of pregnancy, postpartum, infertility, and loss. My practice also provides EMDR therapy for trauma, helping clients process painful experiences and find emotional healing. Sessions are available both in-person in Westfield, NJ and virtually for clients in New Jersey and New York City.

2. What is perinatal therapy?
Perinatal therapy focuses on supporting individuals during pregnancy and the postpartum period. It can help address anxiety, depression, identity shifts, birth trauma, and the challenges that come with becoming a parent. My goal is to provide a compassionate space where you can process your emotions and develop healthy coping tools.

3. How can therapy help with postpartum anxiety and depression?
If you’re struggling with postpartum anxiety, depression, or intrusive thoughts, therapy can help you feel grounded and supported. I use evidence-based approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and EMDR, to help you manage anxiety, regulate your emotions, and reconnect with yourself and your baby.

4. What is EMDR therapy, and how does it work?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a proven therapeutic method that helps clients heal from trauma and distressing experiences. During EMDR sessions, we use guided eye movements or tapping to help the brain reprocess traumatic memories, reducing their emotional impact. It’s especially effective for birth trauma, childhood trauma, and perinatal anxiety.

5. Who can benefit from your therapy services?
My clients are often moms, parents, and women who are feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or stuck. I also work with those navigating infertility, miscarriage, and pregnancy loss, as well as individuals dealing with trauma from earlier life experiences. Whether you’re adjusting to motherhood or seeking healing from the past, therapy can help you find clarity and peace.

6. Do you offer virtual therapy sessions?
Yes. I offer telehealth sessions for clients throughout New Jersey and New York, including NYC, Hoboken, Jersey City, Summit, Short Hills, Scotch Plains, Berkeley Heights, and Westchester County. Virtual sessions are conducted securely and confidentially to provide flexible, convenient care.

7. How long does therapy take?
Each person’s journey is unique. Some clients find relief after several months, while others choose to continue longer-term therapy for deeper healing. During our initial sessions, we’ll discuss your goals and create a plan that feels right for you.

8. What should I expect in my first therapy session?
Your first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other. We’ll talk about your background, current challenges, and what you’d like to achieve through therapy. It’s a supportive, judgment-free space designed to help you feel comfortable and understood.

9. Do you accept insurance?
I am an out-of-network provider, which means I do not accept insurance directly. However, I can provide a superbill that you can submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement. Many clients are able to receive partial coverage for therapy sessions.

10. How do I schedule a session?
You can easily schedule a consultation or session by visiting the Contact page on my website. I’ll respond promptly to discuss availability and answer any additional questions.

13. What if I’ve had a difficult birth experience or trauma related to motherhood?
You are not alone. Birth trauma can have lasting emotional effects, and therapy provides a safe space to process what happened and begin healing. Using EMDR and trauma-informed therapy, I help clients reclaim their sense of control, safety, and confidence as parents.

14. Can therapy help me manage mom guilt or feeling overwhelmed?
Yes. Many moms feel overwhelmed, anxious, or inadequate as they juggle responsibilities and expectations. Therapy can help you set boundaries, reconnect with yourself, and learn tools to manage stress so you can feel more present and grounded in your daily life.
15. How do I know if therapy is right for me?
If you’re feeling stuck, anxious, or emotionally drained, therapy can help you gain perspective and find new ways to move forward. You don’t have to be in crisis to benefit, therapy is about growth, healing, and support at any stage of life.
